First Thoughts

I’m eight weeks into the CEO position here at Acquia, and thought it was time to offer some impressions and insight into what we are thinking.
I’ve been a long time believer in open source, and even a user for my hobby projects (go Meedio). So I was excited to join the company as CEO in March. Having been a board member since the company’s founding, I was familiar with the business, but getting the chance to work with team here on a day to day basis has been a blast. Co-founders Dries and Jay had tried to convince me to be the CEO in those early days, but I was already committed to a stint at Tele Atlas that recently wound up.
My first order of business was to attend Drupalcon. An impressive conference, well organized by the folks at the Washington DC Drupal community. While it wasn’t my first Drupalcon (I attended Boston last year), I was blown away by the growth in attendees and the overall enthusiasm for Drupal. It fully reinforced my decision to join Acquia full time and the investment we are making in expanding both Drupal and Acquia.
Here at Acquia, 2008 was spent building infrastructure and our first Acquia Network products, and now a good portion of our investment in 2009 is in helping Drupal grow. In addition to our engineering work that we contribute, we’re going to get more vocal about end user successes. You’ll see a series of webinars in conjunction with our partners, attendance at trade shows with Acquia staff promoting Drupal, podcasts and other marketing activities as we spread the word. Acquia believes that Drupal can be the dominant web content management system globally.
We believe that wider Drupal adoption will be great for the community as well. As Drupal grows, the community also grows and remains vibrant, innovative and healthy. I’m excited to be a part of it.

2010 has been an inflection point for the Acquia partner program. We are doing more business than ever with partners, including case studies with Palantir.net, Blink Reaction, and IBM Global Services.

It is that phase of my life! I'm just turning 30 in a month, working with Drupal for 7 years and just had my third Acquia anniversary a week ago. Time to look back and evaluate how things went, all the good and bad things; even better if the wisdom can be shared with others. This was part of my thinking when I submitted the session titled "Come for the software, stay for the community" for Drupalcon Copenhagen.

It sounded like a really simple request: "Is it easy to add a search filter for 'My posts'?". In other words, add a search result facet for posts by the current (logged in) user through the Apache Solr Search Integration module APIs?
But then the wheels start turning - we want not just one blind link, but a real facet link that tells us how many results we'll get. Also, if we are filtering by 'My posts' then we probably have an equal use case for the opposite filter 'Posts not by me'. So we really need a facet block with two links and facets counts.

Thanks for the update. I'm looking forward to reading your second and third thoughts ;)
I read with great interest the earlier announcements about your moving into the CEO role, but searches using your name have turned up very little information (common names and all). I'd love to read more about your perspectives on Open Source companies. An Acquia Podcast with you would be great.
