This section covers installing a new Acquia Drupal website from scratch in an AMP (Apache + MySQL + PHP) development environment in your computer's file system (localhost) or on an external server provided by a web-hosting company.

Acquia Drupal Stack Installer

The fastest initial setup of Acquia Drupal on your Mac OS X or Windows computer for testing and development.

The Acquia Drupal stack installer installs a full "DAMP stack" on your local computer: Drupal + Apache + PHP + MySQL and takes care of database creation and other basic Drupal configuration tasks.

Debian/Ubuntu Package Installer

The fastest initial setup of Acquia Drupal on your Debian or Ubuntu computer for testing and development.

The Acquia Drupal package ensures all required dependencies are present on your system: Apache, PHP, and MySQL and takes care of database creation. You complete the basic Drupal configuration in your browser.

Acquia Drupal SVN repository

If you are comfortable working on the command line and want the most reliable site maintenance possible, use the Acquia Drupal SVN repository to install and update your Acquia Drupal website on your local machine or remote server.

Standard Acquia Drupal archive

Use the standard Acquia Drupal archive (.zip or .tar.gz) instead of the Acquia Drupal Stack installer if you are:

• using Linux or Unix, in any situation

• updating an existing Acquia Drupal installation, even if the installation was originally created by the Acquia Drupal Stack installer

• preparing a production hosting environment
