The British Council IATEFL conference 2009
Ixis IT was chosen by the British Council to develop and build and host the 2009 IATEFL conference community hub. The design work was provided to us from the British Council staff. This was a 5 day conference in Cardiff with over 5000 attendees on site, and thousands taking part on-line from across the globe 24 hours a day.
Key achievements in the project included:
Features - The site was developed on the Drupal 6 platform with heavy emphasis on social features including a community forum, social media aggregation, and Twitter integration. Streaming video, audio podcasts and
Flickr.com photographs were automatically brought in to the digital hub using RSS and tagging.
Performance - Load testing and various performance increases were added including caching and memcached were implemented to increase performance and stability during the conference, which attracted over 250,000 unique visitors from 16 countries over the 5 days.
Hosting - Ixis provided an enhanced SLA during the conference including 24/7 monitoring and alerting via SMS and proactive management of the site and proudly provided 100% uptime during the conference.
The project was shortlisted for a UK e-Government National Awards 2009 Finalist in January 2010.
