Gartner just announced their list of the Top 10 Strategic Technologies for 2009. Social software, which would be the logical category for Drupal, came out 7th on the list.
Sometimes I scratch my head when I look at these lists, but this year it seems to make more sense to me. When I look at it from an Acquia and Drupal point of view, several of the items are interesting and relevant. Both Jeff and Kieran recently blogged about a new Forrester report entitled "Web Content Management and Open Source: Answers to Frequently Asked Questions," written by Stephen Powers, with Kyle McNabb and Shelby Catino.
This is old news for those in the Drupal and content management communities, but for some reason has not got a lot of attention from the wider open source industry: a few days ago Dries Buytaert announced that he is forming his own Drupal start-up, called Acquia.
Buytaert has teamed up with Jay Batson, who founded Pingtel and continues to advise the company following its acquisition by Bluesocket, to form Acquia, which will offer annual subscriptions for software and services based around the Drupal web content management system.

Gartner, one of the leading technology industry analyst firms, published their list of the Top 10 Strategic Technologies for 2008 back in October 2007 at their Gartner Symposium/ITXpo event. I was at the event, but somehow missed the press release. Karthikeyan over at Seeking Alpha just posted a summary that brought it to my attention.
