The Client

Loma Linda University Health (LLUH) is an academic medical center operating six hospitals, a physician practice corporation, remote clinics in the western United States and affiliate organizations worldwide. These medical services interact with the eight schools that make up its healthcare-focused university.

The Situation

Like many health-focused organizations during the pandemic, LLUH needed to continue communicating with its audiences at a time when information and guidelines were constantly changing.

The Challenge

LLUH wanted to ensure its patients had up-to-date information related to the pandemic as well as the organization’s response to it. The medical center was tasked with letting the public know that medical care was still available during the quarantine via virtual visits.

The Solution

LLUH’s web team worked tirelessly with the organization’s care providers to make sure that the content on the site was accurate and reflected the recommendations of the CDC as well as local public health entities. When the web team realized that the pages on the site needed to be a real-time resource for employees and the community, they led daily meetings with care providers to review content prior to publishing. The ability to quickly author content in the Acquia Cloud was a lifesaver, both figuratively and literally. LLUH was able to work with Acquia to upsize their environment quickly to meet the surge of traffic that they saw during the pandemic.

The Results

At the height of the pandemic, the LLUH website saw 20,000+ daily views to the COVID-19 section of its website; the COVID-19 related pages quickly became the most visited section of the website. LLUH was able to rapidly upsize their Acquia Cloud environment to meet this surge of traffic.

In addition, LLUH was able to inform the public of the availability of video visits, allowing the institution to continue to provide critical care to its community during difficult times.
