Fannie Mae: Multisite Platform
Drupal, Acquia Site Factory
The Client
Fannie Mae, the Federal National Mortgage Association (FNMA), is a government-sponsored enterprise and a publicly traded company. Founded by Congress during the Great Depression as part of the New Deal, Fannie Mae aims to provide a reliable source of affordable mortgage financing across the country. Fannie Mae continues to support low- and moderate-income mortgage borrowers and renters by enabling greater access to home and rental housing financing in all markets at all times.
The Situation
Fannie Mae realized it needed a platform solution that would allow it to better communicate with borrowers and lenders, build out applications and meet the growing demand for its services.
The Challenge
Fannie Mae is a large organization with a multitude of sites. Managing these non-integrated platforms had become an enormous challenge — time-consuming for content marketers and expensive for the organization to maintain.
The Solution
Digital partner Phase2 met with Fannie Mae and created a strategy for helping the organization meet its goals. Specifically, Phase2 recommended:
- Consolidation of Fannie Mae’s existing sites and content onto a single, unified Drupal platform
- A collaborative approach where Fannie Mae and Phase2 worked together to build and roll out the new platform
- Clear governance and management
Phase2 built a Drupal platform with a variety of capabilities that can be leveraged for future Fannie Mae projects, including updating existing sites, such as KnowYourOptions.com, which provides education to homeowners struggling with mortgage payments. For renters and homeowners impacted by COVID-19, KnowYourOptions.com offers easy-to-understand information in multiple languages, around refinancing, disaster relief and loan deferral options.
Fannie Mae sites are hosted on Acquia Site Factory, meaning that Acquia maintains the hosting environment, allowing Fannie Mae and Phase2 teams to focus on deploying the highest quality code and creating impactful digital experiences. The result is a platform that supports unified deployments and structured releases across all of Fannie Mae's business. The platform allows editors to create engaging experiences with flexible, best-in-class layout tools for supporting critical business operations.
The Results
This new Drupal platform on Acquia Site Factory allowed Fannie Mae to easily publish content without any duplication of effort. Additionally, content syndication enabled the Fannie Mae team to publish content once and have this content distributed across multiple domains.
Consolidating Fannie Mae sites into a single platform:
- Improved efficiency and speed to market
- Enabled data collection so that informed, strategic decisions could be made
- Enforced brand consistency via governance and structure
- Fostered self-sufficiency through training and support of the Fannie Mae team
- Reduced overall expenditures through cuts in hosting, licensing and support fees
