The Client

United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) works in about 170 countries and territories, helping to eradicate poverty, reduce inequalities and exclusion, and build resilience so countries can sustain progress. As the UN’s development agency, UNDP plays a critical role in helping countries achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

The Situation

In its mission to eradicate poverty globally and establish sustainable growth and development for all humankind, UNDP has added another dimension to its goal — the digital evolution of UNDP to support the next generation of developmental changes and evolving needs. To achieve this goal, it wanted to redefine its digital presence with a new future-ready platform that was scalable, reusable, and flexible.

The Challenge

UNDP needed to redesign and replace 200+ existing corporate websites, improving its existing content management system so it could deliver user-friendly experiences to all UNDP web editors across the world.

The Solution

UNDP partnered with digital experience services company Srijan, which leveraged Acquia Site Studio to help add, update, and make basic yet essential design changes to site content. Srijan deployed Acquia Site Factory to build, provision, and maintain many microsites on a single centralized cloud console and implemented Acquia Search, which resulted in faster website search and improved response time.

The Results

Using Drupal and Acquia solutions, UNDP can more easily onboard more sites in the future. Additionally, the organization now has the flexibility to create engaging experiences with minimal centralized governance while still maintaining consistency across regional websites. UNDP can freely share and localize content, providing a frictionless experience for its engineering teams and marketers.
